The Membership Process

Complete Membership Class pre-work

This pre-work involves watching videos and answering questions. In the pre-work, you’ll be introduced to the Leadership Team, NewSpring beliefs, and family values. The class pre-work must be fully completed before taking step 2.

Sign up for the next in-person Membership Class

After completing the Membership Class pre-work, you will hear from a campus staff member who will help you sign up for your campus’s next in-person Membership Class.

Attend Membership Class

In this class, a staff member will introduce you to campus staff and explain what a covenantal membership means for you and for NewSpring Church.

Next Step Conversation

At the end of the in-person class, you’ll have a conversation with a volunteer and/or a staff member about your next step. In this conversation, you’ll be asked about your relationship with Jesus and your baptism. Whether membership is your next best step or not, the goal is for you to walk away connected to a next step that will help you grow in your everyday relationship with Jesus.

Sign a Membership Commitment

If membership is your next step, you’ll be asked to sign a Membership Commitment.

Membership in a local church is an important part of a Christian’s spiritual formation. It is a decision to be made prayerfully and with serious consideration. Our goal is to clearly explain what you’re committing to and what we’re committing to through membership.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why membership? Why now?

Paul tells us that in Ephesians 4 that believers are "members one of another". This highlights that membership is not just casual; it’s a mutual covenant obligation that’s necessary for healthy Christian living. At NewSpring, we are committed to calling people to the full life Christ promises by providing a biblical vision of belonging to the local church. In the past, we’ve been under the “participatory membership” model. Now, we’re moving to “covenant membership,” which means that instead of simply giving, serving, or attending discipleship offerings, you’re committed to being discipled by NewSpring Church, affirm their beliefs, and want to be shepherded by their leadership. This type of membership is the best next step toward seeing everyone everywhere in an everyday relationship with Jesus.

Who can become a member of NewSpring Church?

Anyone who has received Jesus as their Savior and taken the next step of baptism is welcome to become a member of NewSpring Church. From new followers in the faith to mature oaks of righteousness, membership at NewSpring Church is intended to help everyone grow in their daily relationship with Jesus, belong to a community, and follow the biblical model of discipleship as they progress in spiritual maturity.

What does it mean to become a member at NewSpring?

Members at NewSpring have received Christ, been baptized, and agree to uphold NewSpring’s core values, beliefs, and convictions. They also intend to attend gatherings regularly, maintain a daily relationship with Jesus, give tithes and offerings, and participate in discipleship and serving opportunities regularly. You’ll be able to read the membership covenant in detail before committing to becoming a member.

What is the process for someone becoming a member?

In January 2026, we’ll kick off a new series that digs into what the Church is, what membership in the local church is all about, and why it’s critical in the life of a believer to engage in a covenant community. After this series, anyone who wants to become a member right away will fill out a membership commitment card and have a conversation with someone from their local NewSpring campus staff. After that, membership will open on a rolling basis.

After membership is open on a rolling basis in Spring 2026, those who want to join NewSpring will fill out an interest form, receive communication from church staff, and complete digital pre-class work that provides information about NewSpring’s vision, beliefs, values, and leadership. Once the pre-class work is completed, a staff member will help them sign up for the next membership class at their campus. At the end of each class, each participant will have a one on one conversation with a host to discuss if membership is their best next step.

What’s happening to Connect Class?

In 2026, Connect Class will become Membership Class. Your local campus will provide further information as this transition takes place.

When will membership classes take place?

Campuses will have membership class on the 3rd Sunday of every month. Stay tuned for more details from your campus!

Can I volunteer at NewSpring if I’m not a member?

Ongoing volunteer roles will require church membership! There will be short term exceptions — your campus staff can determine and walk through those with you in one-on-one scenarios.

Can I join a group or class at NewSpring if I’m not a member?

Yes! Membership is not required to join classes or groups at NewSpring.
